The .mo registration service is meant for organizations based in Macau. The .mo extension is the internet country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) for Macau, commonly known as Macao. This region is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, along with Hong Kong.
The applicants for domain name registration must be organizations that have been registered according to law and can independently assume civil liability. Individuals may not apply for domain name registration.
Some of the second level domains are listed below.
- .com. mo — this domain is only for commercial entities or for commercial for-profit organizations. Enterprises in the fields of industry, commerce, finance, etc will come under this domain.
- .gov.mo — this domain is for the registration of government departments and organizations.
- .org.mo — the registration of non profit organizations such as charitable societies comes under this domain.
- .edu.mo — the .edu.mo domain is reserved for the registration of licensed educational institutions such as schools, colleges, and other such bodies.
- .net.mo — this domain is reserved for the registration of network service providers.
The .mo registration is managed by Macau Internet Network Information Centre (MONIC) which is operated by the University of Macau. They provide domain name registration services to the local public.
Applicants for domain name registration should follow these conditions:
- The primary domain name server of the applicant must operate within Macau and provide continuous service for the domain name.
- The applicants must designate an administrative contact and a technical contact respectively responsible for the administration and the operation of the domain name server at the requested level.
- The applicant should submit the confirmation letter with organization's authorized signature.
- The applicant should fill in all the information as stated in the application form.
Enterprises, organizations, and government authorities applying for domain name registration under .com, .org, .gov respectively must submit a
photocopy of their license or approval document registered with the Macau Government.
Applicants can obtain application form via the website http://www.monic.net.mo. They can submit their filled application forms by mail, post, or in person.
The MONIC will verify the accepted application forms and complete the .mo registration within ten working days.
